City seeks further public input on transit services
The City is preparing for the next phase of community outreach for citizens to further help reshape Red Deer’s transit services. Proposed new routes, improved frequency, connectivity and accessibility are all part of the draft plan that The City will be sharing with customers and citizens in September to get their input on potential changes.
The Transit Network Improvements project got underway this year with The City planning to improve transit services in ways that best meet the current and future needs of our growing community. The City has been out meeting with transit staff, customers and citizens this spring and summer in an effort to understand their needs and wants as it relates to transit in Red Deer.
“Based on the feedback we collected so far, the proposed transit improvements will include better frequency, more direct and less circuitous routes, and improved customer amenities at bus stops and connection points,” said George Penny, Transit Manager. “Through this work, as well as previous work on The City’s Multimodal Transportation Plan, we are building a plan that honours and respects the needs of current and future transit users as well as best practices across the industry in Canada.”
The project is considering all Red Deer transit services comprehensively and the detailed steps that can be taken to improve them. Over 500 customers and citizens have been engaged throughout the initial phase of the project, which has informed the development of draft options for revised routes, service levels and infrastructure.
