Saskatoon wins 18U AAA baseball title

The Saskatoon Cubs won the Western Canadian 18U AAA Baseball Championship in Red Deer over the weekend.

The Cubs took a thrilling 9-8 extra innings win over Northern Lights Academy (Grande Prairie) in Sunday afternoon’s final at Great Chief Park. Saskatoon had trailed 7-2 midway through the gam before mounting a spirited comeback.

The host Red Deer Carstar Braves finished the tournament with a 2-2 record. They fell to Northern Lights 13-1 in the opening game Thursday night before bouncing back to beat Winnipeg 5-4 on Friday. Red Deer then fell 5-2 to North Delta on Saturday before edging the Cubs in their second game of the day 3-2.
