Not going down without a fight, the Monarchs responded with a 58-yard major score with 33 seconds on the clock, plus they converted for the two extra points to cut the deficit to eight.

However that was as close as they’d come thanks to an errant onside kick attempt that didn’t go far enough.

Bucs slotback/kicker Tyler Johannesson spoke post-game about the team rounding into form.

“Guys came out ready to go. For the Buccaneers organization, this is 17 years in, we’ve never won a championship. There’s literally a thousand people that have played on this team. This is my 10th year; I sacrifice my summers every single year,” he said.

“My wife is just — the only reason I’m playing is to win a championship. All these guys that have put hours and hours of their time and their lives into this for no money, in fact mostly everyone is paying money, so this means a lot and I think the guys understand that and we’ll be ready to go. I expect to win and I expect to win at nationals in four weeks.”

A kickoff time is yet to be announced for the final in Calgary on August 24.
