Intruding bears in Rocky caught, euthanized

Jul 11, 2019 | 3:45 PM

The two young grizzly bears that came to Rocky Mountain House seeking an easy meal by rummaging through residents’ garbage bins and looking for other sources of human food have been caught and put down.

Alberta Fish and Wildlife says they took the threat posed by the wandering bears very seriously, closing off many of the local walking trails and setting traps in an attempt to capture the animals.

By Wednesday, both bears had been captured and put down as they were deemed by officers to be too comfortable around humans and were conditioned to seek human garbage in areas populated by humans.

The animals were also deemed to have no fear of people and were willing to approach making the possibility of them acting aggressively towards humans very likely.
