Buffalo Lake development proposal remains no-go for now

Jun 13, 2019 | 4:14 PM

Plans to develop an outdoor recreational facility on the south shore of Buffalo Lake in the County of Stettler appear to be dead in the water for now.

On Tuesday, County officials announced the Subdivision and Development Appeal Board (SDAB) had upheld the Development Authority’s previous decision to refuse the application.

The SDAB’s ruling followed a hearing on June 5 that the Appellant’s application for a development permit submitted on Mar. 28, 2019 was incomplete.

According to the Appellant, the proposed development included 318 ancillary campsites or RV stalls spread out over 83.4 acres at Paradise Shores RV Resort and was intended to support the primary use of the property.

Several other amenities were also included in the original application, including informal walking and biking trails, a boat house concession, equipment rentals, possible AquaGlide water park on the lake and kid’s splash park and water slide among others.

However, in the SDAB’s Notice of Decision, it was noted the Appellant did not submit outstanding information requested by the Development Authority to evaluate the application by the deadline, nor seek additional time to submit the outstanding information.

The Notice of Decision indicates the SDAB’s decision can be appealed to the Alberta Court of Appeal.
