Olds residents facing identity theft-related charges

May 17, 2019 | 4:36 PM

The search of a central Alberta hotel room by RCMP last month has resulted in identity theft-related charges for two people from Olds.

On Apr. 16, Olds RCMP received a complaint of identity theft, with the victim reporting that someone had used their personal information to apply for car loans, credit cards and phone plans.

Mounties say it was determined that a vehicle had also been fraudulently purchased using the victim’s identification.

The investigation led police to suspect an Olds resident and, on April 26, a search warrant was executed at a local hotel where the suspect resided. The search resulted in the seizure of several items related to identification theft, fraud and counterfeiting.

Morgan Stephen Winter, 45, has been charged with three counts of using a forged document, two counts of identity theft, two counts of trafficking property obtained by crime over $5000, two counts of trafficking property obtained by crime under $5000 and one count of fraud over $5000.

Mounties say a warrant has been issued for Winter’s arrest.

Also charged is Starr Audrey Bowman, 31. Bowman has been charged with one count of identity theft and two counts of trafficking property obtained by crime over $5000.

Bowman is scheduled to appear in Didsbury Provincial Court on May 27.
