Red Deer RCMP investigating rash of break and enters overnight

May 17, 2019 | 3:05 PM

Red Deer RCMP are investigating a series of break and enters and thefts overnight involving several local businesses.

Cpl. Karyn Kay says some of those businesses include Red Deer Toyota in Gasoline Alley, Gord Scott Nissan, Kia Red Deer and Fas Gas Plus on 79 Street in Kentwood.

According to Kay, the incidents took place sometime between 11:00 p.m. on May 15 and 4:00 a.m. May 17.

“The Fas Gas in the north, entry was gained into the building by using a firearm to break the window,” she explains. “We’re currently looking for suspects and investigating it as a series of break and enters. We’re still having more and more calls come in but Fas Gas was the first one and we believe that Glass Masters was also hit.”

Cpl. Kay says the suspects are believed to be operating a variety of stolen motor vehicles, with property being stolen from the businesses.

“As for the value, we don’t know,” adds Kay. “We’re still collecting statements from the business owners that are going through their property.”

Cpl. Kay says the events serve as an important reminder for businesses and residents alike to make sure all property is locked and secured when not on site.

“If you have cameras, make sure they’re recording and that they’re turned on,” says Kay. “Know your surroundings, talk to your neighbours and make sure that if you see something suspicious, that you report it to the police.”

Cpl. Kay says fortunately, no one was hurt.
