Woody's Marathon

Woody’s RV World Marathon set to explore Red Deer’s trails

May 9, 2019 | 3:10 PM

Close to 1,000 runners from across North America will be gathered in Red Deer next weekend for the 21st Annual Woody’s RV World Marathon.

Race Director Curtis Marquart says, as per usual, the bulk of the race course is along Red Deer’s beautiful river valley trail system.

“The Woody’s Marathon, in my humble opinion, is the premier event of the central Alberta season,” he declares. “It’s an early season run which means that all of our participants basically have to train through the winter. But that just hardens them up and gets them ready for our event and opens up the rest of the season for them.”

Marquart says the Woody’s RV World Marathon is a great event for those with a passion for running.

“It gets people off the couch, it gets people outside and it brings families together because mom and dad and the kids can all go out and enjoy time together, so it’s a great thing,” he says. “Registration is going really well. We’re really happy with our numbers and we still have two weeks to go and every day we’re seeing more and more people coming in, so it’s going to be great.”

One highlight to this year’s race, according to Marquart, is having live music at certain points along the route.

“We do have bands that are on course,” he explains. “So for those people that are running, in a few spots, you’re going to have live music and it’s going to be great.”

The annual Woody’s RV World Marathon and Half Marathon is set to take place May 17 and also includes a 10 km run and kid’s race as well, with both the starting line and finish line located at Ecole Camille J. Lerouge School, 5530 42A Avenue, Red Deer.

Registration remains open for the Red Deer event, which is a Boston Marathon qualifier.
