City ratifies two-year agreement with electrical workers

Red Deer City council has accepted a mediator’s recommended terms of settlement and ratified a new two-year collective agreement with its electrical workers.

The agreement ratified on Monday with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), Local 254, is effective January 1, 2019 and runs until December 31, 2020.

City officials say the two parties met over seven days of bargaining and one day of mediation.

According to officials, the City of Red Deer will increase wage rates for their approximately 45 IBEW employees by 1 per cent in January 2019, and 2 per cent in January of 2020.

Officials add, negotiations proceeded well in an atmosphere of trust and mutual respect, pointing-out both parties are satisfied that it meets current their and future needs.

City officials say the two-year agreement will assist in maintaining stability in the relationship into the future.
