As she runs to become the next MLA for Red Deer-North, UCP candidate Adriana LaGrange describes herself as a proven leader and common sense person.

“Being a mother of seven and trained as a rehab practitioner, working with the mentally and physically challenged, I’ve always tried to be a voice for the marginalized and those who don’t have a voice in society,” says LaGrange. “I have been elected municipally as a trustee for 11 years, provincially as a provincial president of a trustee association for three-and-a-half years and then selected nationally as vice president of a trustee association.”

LaGrange, a former trustee and board chair for Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools wo resigned to run in the provincial election, points to a wide range of experience she can draw upon to be a successful MLA.

“I bring I believe a wealth of experience in many arenas, including agriculture because we do farm on the outskirts of Red Deer,” she explains. “We own a business, so I’ve got business sense and community sense. I’ve been a volunteer and have given back to the community and believe strongly in giving back to the community and this is another way for me to give back and use all my abilities and skills for the betterment of Red Deer and community, especially Red Deer-North.”

During her time on the campaign trail, LaGrange feels it’s the economy that is the biggest priority for Albertans.

“So many of the businesses in Red Deer–North have been affected or are in the process of downsizing as a result of the poor economy,” she explains. “Beyond that, locally, of course, the hospital and cardiac catheterization is top of mind and quality education is what I’m hearing at the doors, day in and day out.”

LaGrange notes however, the extent to which many constituents seem to be hurting in Red Deer-North.

“The number of doors that I’ve knocked on that people are out of work or know someone whose out of work,” says LaGrange. “The number of businesses that I’ve spoken to that are hanging on, waiting to see for a change in government for a more optimistic, hopeful future. It seems quite dire out there and so many people are looking for a change in government to a UCP government for prosperity to return. to Alberta.”

LaGrange hopes the remainder of the election campaign is a positive one.

“I hope it’s about issues and policy and not about personal attacks,” she exclaims. “So I’m looking forward to running a very positive, issue-based campaign and looking forward after 28 days to the election and a United Conservative Party governance model that will look after all of Alberta and bring back that prosperity, that Alberta advantage and get people back to work and feeling hopeful about their futures again.”
