RED DEER- Actua, the national organization that represents Red Hot Science at Red Deer College has announced that the program will receive $70,000 in CanCode funding.

CanCode is a $50 million dollar fund, announced in the federal budget 2017, that is supporting the development of coding and digital skills for youth across Canada.

The funding will go towards scaling up Red Hot Science’s community programming to reach even more youth in Central Alberta with inspiring, hands-on coding and digital skills experiences.

“Red Deer College is excited to move forward with new coding and digital skills programming thanks to this CanCode funding support from Actua. We would like to take the opportunity to thank Actua for investing in the youth of our community,” said Brenda Munro, Dean of the School of Continuing Education at Red Deer College.

RDC’s Red Hot Science is one of 35 network members receiving CanCode funding and will work with colleagues across the network to develop and exchange content that will help inspire Canada’s next generation of innovators.

“We are honoured to be a recipient of CanCode funding and thrilled to provide additional support to Red Hot Science to engage more youth in building digital skills,” said Jennifer Flanagan, President and CEO of Actua. “This support means that many more youth in central Alberta will have the opportunity to access free, deep-impact, face-to-face learning experiences which are critical to their future success and our future Canadian workforce.”
