West Park students make it 12 years of helping local charities

Students at West Park Elementary have a lot to be proud of after their latest ambitious fundraising efforts.

Each day last week, donations were collected for five different charities, a now 12-year tradition at the school. Those benefiting this year include the Women’s Shelter, The Mustard Seed, the Red Deer Food Bank, the warming centre and Ronald McDonald House.

Loretta Winia, Admin Assistant at West Park Elementary, is amazed at the generosity of such young students.

“Oh my golly it’s amazing. Every day they had a challenge so the classroom that brought in the most change got applause on the intercom,” she noted. “It was so well received and then the recipients came to the assembly on Tuesday and received the things in-person, so it was really exciting.”
