Work is already underway on the $15 million Exhibition Hall and should be done by next February. It’ll house a removable soccer pitch and provide more than 50,000 square feet of event space.

On the list of future possibilities for Westerner Park is a $26 million convention centre, $46 million hotel, $17 million galleria (indoor walkway) and $25 million twin arena complex. To accommodate increased traffic, $15 million in upgrades to parking site services is also on the list.

The Enmax Centrium will be touched up this year with a new concession, upgraded and expanded washrooms, and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning repairs totalling $8 million. Expanding seating capacity to approx. 8,500 is also a possibility in the next couple of years.

Westerner Park is floating two versions of their plan as they begin in seeking public input – one that includes the racetrack and one that doesn’t.

“We would like to attract more larger trade shows and conventions to Central Alberta and right now there isn’t sufficient space for a 5,000 person trade show,” said Antifaiff. “In the next three to five years, you are going to see events that have never been in Central Alberta.”

Antifaiff says they’ll explore all avenues for government grant funding to help fund the projects and hinted at the creation of a fundraising foundation.
