A seventh candidate is throwing his hat into the ring to be the United Conservative Party candidate for the upcoming by-election in the Innisfail-Sylvan Lake constituency.

Joel Loh is the Vice President of Regulatory Affairs and Public Relations at Simba Industries Transload Ltd., an Alberta-based oil company specializing in the rail transport of crude oil. He’s also worked as an Operations Terminal Auditor, auditing various LPG and LNG facilities, and served as the Rail Terminal Manager at the Bowden Refinery.

Loh is also a founding member of the Committee for Proud Alberta Fair Trade Oil, billed as an online Facebook community promoting the Alberta oil and gas industry.

Formerly a resident of Calgary, Loh served as president of the Canadian Alliance association in the Calgary-Southwest riding in the early 2000s.

The 40-year-old resides in Sylvan Lake with his wife Jennifer, who together own and operate Joel & Jen Productions. The couple has one daughter. Joel and Jennifer are also Pastors at Frontline Worship Centre, a non-denominational Christian church in Sylvan Lake.

Loh joins Joan Barnes, Devin Dreeshen, Gayle Langford, Christine Moore, Mike Walsh and Victor Sloboda in the growing list of candidates seeking to replace Don MacIntyre, who resigned in February after being charged with sexual assault and sexual interference.

UCP members in the Innisfail-Sylvan Lake constituency will choose a by-election candidate on the weekend of April 28 – 30. A date for the impending by-election has not been announced.
