Stranded boaters rescued on North Saskatchewan River near Rocky

Jun 3, 2018 | 3:40 PM

Fortunately no one was hurt after a group of stranded boaters were rescued off the banks of the North Saskatchewan River near Rocky Mountain House Saturday night.

It happened around 7:30 p.m. upstream from the Saunders Recreation Area east of Nordegg where RCMP worked in collaboration with Clearwater Fire Department, Search and Rescue, Rocky Ambulance and Conservation Enforcement to rescue two adults, two youth, two children and one husky dog on the south shore of the river.

Mounties say the group’s boat had gotten away when they stopped to rest and was later located down river on the north shore.

Police deployed their jet boat with the assistance of Search and Rescue members to recover the group of stranded people.
