“Kids will get a great little toothbrush and toothpaste, and a cloth, and maybe a toy, and the mom gets women products, and shampoo and conditioner and all of that stuff.

“When the family leaves our shelter, we try to give them another little going away bag that has shampoo conditioner, stuff they’ll need when they move out,” Easton adds.

Back in March, the Mountain Rose Women’s Shelter received $1.9 million from the government for expansion. Easton says everyone at the shelter is very excited about the progress that has been made.

“We’re moving from a 10 bed shelter, to a 21 bed emergency shelter, with five second stage apartments, community services offices, and safe secure intake areas, and storage rooms”

Easton also noted that the new facility will have an elevator, making future drives easier, because “it won’t be up and down stairs.”

If they continue receiving donations for the new shelter and keep the build going at a steady pace, Easton says the new shelter should hopefully be up and running by August of next year.
