Traffic delays on 19 Street & Taylor Drive this week

Jun 19, 2018 | 7:51 AM

RED DEER- Drivers can expect delays at the 19 Street and Taylor Drive intersection this week as work continues to complete the new intersection.

Construction at the intersection began last fall to upgrade traffic lights and add additional turn lanes.

Road construction is nearly complete, with the final layer of asphalt to be completed this week.

On Tuesday, June 19, intermittent lane closures will be in place during asphalt milling in preparation for paving.

The intersection will close for paving overnight on Wednesday, June 21 from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. and access to Highway 2 and Highway 2A will be affected.

Drivers are encouraged to use the following detours when accessing or leaving the south end of the city:

– Use 32 Street to access Highway 2
– Use Gaetz Avenue or 32 Street to access the city from Northbound Highway 2
– Use 32 Street to access the city from Southbound Highway 2

In case of inclement weather, the overnight closure may be rescheduled to Thursday, June 22.

Permanent pavement markings will be installed over the weekend and work to complete trails and landscaping will follow.
