The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) says they intercepted an inmate who was attempting to smuggle crystal meth and heroin into the medium security unit at Drumheller Institution.

Officials say the seizure worth about $65,000 was made at around noon on Oct. 17 and that RCMP have been notified.

CSC uses a number of tools to prevent drugs from entering its institutions including ion scanners and drug-detector dogs to search buildings, personal property, inmates and visitors.

CSC says it is heightening measures to prevent contraband from entering its institutions in order to help ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone, and that they are working with the police to take action against those who attempt to introduce contraband into correctional institutions.
