Rebels lose 4-1 in Medicine Hat

The Red Deer Rebels suffered just their second regulation loss in their last 11 games Wednesday night as they fell 4-1 on the road to the Medicine Hat Tigers.

Cole Clayton opened the scoring for Medicine Hat with his first goal of the season eight minutes into period one. Tyler Preziuso made it 2-0 with a power play goal over eight minutes later.

James Hamblin made it 3-0 just 39 seconds into period two with another power play tally.

Jeff de Wit scored the lone goal of the game for the Rebels at 18:15 of the middle frame. Chris Douglas and Alexander Alexeyev assisted on de Wit’s seventh goal of the season, also a power play goal.

The Tigers added a 5-on-3 goal 5:53 into period three from Bryan Lockner to seal the deal in this one.

Byron Fancy made his second start of the season in net for the Rebels and was saddled with the loss. Danish netminder Mads Sogard earned the win for Medicine Hat.

The Rebels fall to 8-4-1 on the season and still lead the Central Division with 17 points. Medicine Hat improved to 7-6-1, good for 15 points on the year.

Thursday is an off day for the Rebels before they return to action Friday night at the Enmax Centrium versus Saskatoon (7 p.m. on 106.7 THE DRIVE).
