Long Table Dinner Mixes Central Alberta’s Urban and Rural Roots at Westerner Park

Our next stop will be the Hidden Valley Garden, a U-Pick farm and market garden in Sylvan Lake. The farm’s goal is to provide a garden and orchard where visitors can feel at home. Guests enjoy the peace and quiet of a garden setting, whilst picking their own vegetables, berries and herbs. Their passion is producing fresh produce for their customers as well as taking a hands-on approach to educating their visitors on sustainably and responsibly produced local food.

Many guests will be delighted to know that the final stop on our farm to table tour is the Troubled Monk Brewery. Troubled Monk poured their first pint from their 15-barrel brew house on June 12, 2015. The brewing process relies on 4 main ingredients; malt barley, hops, yeast and water. The majority of the malt they use is locally grown in the fields of Alberta, but they also source malt from other parts of the world. Troubled Monk uses Canadian hops whenever possible, and source hops from the US, Europe, and New Zealand. Their water is local, filtered Red Deer water. In addition to letting us join them at their Taproom for the authentic Troubled Monk experience to up your brew knowledge with our onsite experts, they will also be providing beer flights later on in the evening.

Finally, for our incredible five course dinner with entertainment, it’s back to Westerner Park, where our evening will begin with an equine extravaganza set to music provided by members of the Red Deer Symphony Orchestra. The majesty of the horse in the evening light will take your breath away. Following the show, guests are invited to take a seat at our table for a five course meal that will bring the freshness of the fields directly to our plates. Our Executive Chef Jason Pederson will create flavorful dishes using locally sourced ingredients from the Central Alberta farms you have just visited.
