Mountie in southern Alberta faces assault charge

FORT MACLEOD, Alta. – An RCMP officer in southern Alberta has been charged with assault following a police investigation.

Mounties say a constable from the Fort Macleod detachment responded to a 911 call made from a home in Granum, Alta., last April.

They allege he was confirming the welfare of a resident at the home when an argument broke out between the two of them.

Police allege the officer pushed and punched the resident.

The matter was investigated by RCMP from the Crowsnest Pass detachment.

Const. Troy Heystek was charged on Monday and has been reassigned to an administrative role pending court proceedings.Heystek is to make his first court appearance in Lethbridge provincial court on Jan. 15.
