CARE hosts seventh annual Learn to Skate program

Jan 3, 2019 | 3:45 PM

Dozens of local newcomers to Canada are taking to the ice in Red Deer this week as part of the Central Alberta Refugee Effort’s (CARE) Learn to Skate program.

Now in its seventh year, the program is a joint effort between CARE and the City of Red Deer and offers newcomers to Canada the chance to learn how to skate or try out some shinny hockey.

The program is offered free of charge to immigrant youth, with all equipment borrowed and provided by donation or purchased through grant funding.

Other partner organizations include RCMP, Red Deer Pond Hockey, St. John Ambulance, Riverside Meadows Community Association, Lindsay Thurber High School, Hockey Alberta and many more community volunteers.
