City and county drive home provincial grant funding for transit projects

Mar 7, 2019 | 3:21 PM

The City of Red Deer and Red Deer County are getting some transit funding from the province.

The City is getting nearly $2.5 million to help construct north and south transit terminals.

The County is getting $480,000 to purchase a new compressed natural gas-operated bus and for bus stop infrastructure.

Transportation Minister Brian Mason on Thursday announced a total $215 million for 17 transit projects across the province from the new Alberta Community Transit Fund.

Launched in August 2018, the province says Alberta Community Transit Fund investments help municipalities address the needs of their growing communities, while increasing environmentally sustainable transit options and improving rider experience.

Of the grant funding announced Thursday, $141.4 million will be funded from the provincial government’s Climate Leadership Plan.
