City of Lacombe to conduct municipal census

Mar 18, 2019 | 1:24 PM

Lacombe residents are being encouraged to stand up and be counted this spring.

The City of Lacombe is conducting a Municipal Census from Apr. 2 – Jun. 20, so residents are encouraged to complete the census questionnaire online, as they only have to answer one question.

“Lacombe is growing, and the City needs accurate, up-to-date population information in order to maximize on the various grants we receive from the provincial and federal governments,” says Mayor Grant Creasey, in a press release. “Many of these grants are calculated on a per capita basis. When you count yourself in, your city receives $210 per person in grant dollars that support our roads, policing, social programs, and other important municipal services.”

In the week before Apr. 2, each household will receive information and a unique PIN on how to complete their census online at www.lacombe.ca/census.

The census will be available from 8:00 a.m. on Apr. 2 to 8:00 p.m. on Jun. 20.

Officials say there will be a kiosk set up at City Hall for those with limited access to computers.

Lacombe and District Family and Community Support Services has also offered in-person assistance to those needing help.

Residents can also phone (403)302-8551 to complete the census.

In addition, officials say everyone who completes the census online will be entered into a random draw for Kinsmen Aquatic Centre family pool passes.

“Enumerators will begin collecting census data on April 15 by visiting households that have not responded online,” explains Director of Corporate Services Diane Piche. “All Census workers will present City-issued identification, and we encourage residents to confirm their identification before answering questions.”

When an enumerator comes to a residence and finds no one home, City officials say information will be left on the door indicating a census worker was there.

The resident can then contact the enumerator to arrange a convenient time for the worker to return.
