Breakfast with the Guys raising awareness of domestic violence
A charity breakfast later this month in support of the Central Alberta Women’s Emergency Shelter hopes to pump up the conversation on domestic violence.
Breakfast with the Guys is happening November 30 at the Red Deer Golf and Country Club beginning at 7 a.m.
Ian Wheeliker, Executive Director with CAWES, says the event is an opportunity for men to come out and learn how they can step up and take a stand alongside women who’ve been working on this issue for years.
“People have historically thought this is a womens’ issue, but it’s really a community issue,” he says. “We want to give men an opportunity to get involved and to figure out how to lead change in their workplace, in their families, and in their community in general.”
Guests at the breakfast will be treated to a gourmet meal, specialty coffee and inspiring conversation with Tuval Nafshi from the Alberta Council of Women’s Shelters, as well as Calgary Stampeders Keon Raymond and Anthony Parker.
The event also takes places during Alberta Family Violence Prevention Month.
“If we’re really going to move the needle on domestic violence, it’s through awareness, education and prevention. That’s really what this breakfast is about,” Wheeliker adds. “It’s about getting the word out there that you as a man, in your family, in your work and in community, can make a difference in terms of ending domestic violence.”
Though the theme of the breakfast is raising the conversation amongst men, women are welcome to attend.
Advance tickets are available for $75 each or $500 for a table of eight. They are also available at the door for $100 each.
Tickets are available online at www.cawes.com.
