Defence, global warming and mortgages: how federal politics touched us this week
OTTAWA — When is an “architect” not an architect?
That question, which spurred many a conversation this week on Parliament Hill, was far from funny to Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan, who sought forgiveness from veterans and MPs for falsely claiming to have filled such a role in a major military operation.
Sajjan admitted he overstepped — the opposition says he “lied” — when he boasted recently that he was the mastermind of Operation Medusa, a controversial and bloody Canadian-led military mission in Afghanistan in 2006.
Justin Trudeau strenuously defended his defence minister in the House of Commons, then left it to Sajjan to weather the storm.
