Airport authority defrauded of nearly $50,000, investigation underway

May 12, 2017 | 9:36 AM

Blackfalds RCMP confirm they are looking into the alleged misappropriation of nearly $50,000 from the Red Deer Regional Airport Authority.

A routine audit of the Authority’s 2016 financial statements turned up the discrepancy.

A note in the financial statement says “irregularities were discovered that indicate the Authority was the victim of internal theft.”

Of the $47, 598 in question, it’s believed $37,595 was misappropriated in 2015 and $9363 in 2015.

In addition, the note says “there were unusual payments of $108 in 2016 and $7,253 in 2015 made from the bank account where there was insufficient information to determine if the funds were misappropriated or if the payments were made related to valid transactions.”

Staff Sgt. Ken Morrison with Blackfalds RCMP says a complaint has been filed and an investigation is underway, adding it’s too early to say whether any charges will be laid.
