Students in Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools celebrated Canada’s 150th birthday on Tuesday.

At Father Henri Voisin School in Clearview, students took in a variety of activities from lacrosse to eating poutine.

Last week they planted red and white flowers in a large box planter by the school’s entrance. Grade one teacher Leissa Barrow says the planter was made possible through a $1,000 grant , which they’ve received for the last two years.

“It’s an environmental grant that you can apply for every year. It’s do with anything outside, like with an outside classroom. We bought flowers for this planter, because part of the grade one science unit is studying about plants and animals,” she says.

Elsewhere around the division, École Camille J. Lerouge School students created a Canada Flag out of red and white pieces of paper, which each student wrote their favourite part of Canada on.
