Fas Gas robbery charges laid

Red Deer RCMP have arrested and charged a third person in the robbery and attempted robbery of two gas stations in the early morning hours of June 14.

As RCMP continued to investigate the circumstances surrounding the robberies, they identified a third suspect, a 16-year-old male. A warrant was issued for his arrest, and the suspect voluntarily turned himself in to police at the downtown Red Deer RCMP detachment on June 17.

In accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act, RCMP will not release the name of the youth, who made his first court appearance in Red Deer on June 19 and will appear in court next on July 6 to speak to two counts of robbery with firearm and one count of pointing a firearm.

RED DEER- RCMP have laid charges against two men after a failed armed robbery at one gas station and an armed robbery at gunpoint at another gas station in the early morning of June 14.

At 2:15 a.m. Mounties responded to the Fas Gas located at 5101 76 Street.

Two men with a firearm approached the locked door and attempted unsuccessfully to smash it to gain entry before fleeing in a car.

At 2:36 a.m. police responded to an armed robbery at the Fas Gas located at 4023 50 Street.

Two men entered the building with a firearm and demanded cash and lottery tickets.

RCMP located the suspect car nearby and took the driver into custody without incident, seizing a firearm from the vehicle.

Officers arrested the second suspect at a residence a short time later.

Lucas James Werner, 34, faces robbery with a firearm, impaired driving and failing to comply with conditions charges.

Shayden Alvin James Werner, 21, faces charges of robbery with a firearm and pointing a firearm.

Both suspects make their first appearance in court on June 16.
