British Columbia Conservatives plan to end no-fault insurance, leaked letter shows
VICTORIA — The future of no-fault auto insurance was a key focus in British Columbia’s election campaign Tuesday as the two major party leaders accused the other of neglecting drivers.
British Columbia Conservatives plan to repeal the province’s no-fault auto insurance system, in a major policy proposal revealed by a leaked letter from the party’s interim leader to lawyers and insurance executives.
Lorne Doerkson said in the letter that if elected on Oct. 24, the Conservatives would bring in legislation to restore accident victims’ rights to sue under a new “hybrid system” designed to keep rates affordable, while protecting people.
The interim leader said in the letter that everything is on the table when it comes to auto-insurance, including private competition.
