Red Deer Rebels forward Poul Andersen has been named the Western Hockey League Player of the Week.

The 19-year-old from St. Louis Park, Minn., recorded eight points in three games last week to help the Rebels go 2-1-0-0 in three games through Saskatchewan.

He earned an assist on Sept. 30, in a 4-1 loss at Prince Albert before recording two goals in a 4-2 win at Saskatoon two days later.

Just a few minutes into the first period, he found the back of the net to put Red Deer up 2-0 before scoring again less than three minutes later. Andersen’s second goal of the game went on to stand as the game winner.

Meanwhile, on Saturday Andersen exploded on offence with four goals and an assist in a 5-2 victory over the Moose Jaw Warriors.

He set up Kaden Meyer to open the scoring 3:35 into the first period.

The Warriors later tied the game, but Andersen scored his fourth goal of the season to give the Rebels the lead once again.

In the second period, Andersen added his second of the night on the power play and later netted an insurance marker with 3:37 to go in the frame. He then scored an empty-net goal late in the third period.

As a result, he was named the first star of the game and was the Rebels’ first four-goal game since Ty Coupland did the same on March 1, 2025, in a 10-2 win over the Kelowna Rockets.

With 14 points in seven games, Andersen now leads the WHL in scoring with 14 points in seven games, ranking three points ahead of teammate and Colorado Avalanche prospect Beckett Hamilton. Andersen’s seven goals also lead the WHL, ranking two goals ahead of Hamilton.

Andersen was acquired by the Rebels as part of the return for Dallas Stars prospect Jaxon Fuder on December 27, 2025.

This week, the Rebels return home beginning Friday, October 9, when the Calgary Hitmen visit the Centrium at 7 p.m.
