Canadian Women’s Senior Championship wraps up at Pine Hills Golf Club

A seven-time Canadian national champion was crowned in Rocky Mountain House last week.

Judith Kyrinis won the Canadian Women’s Senior Championship at Pine Hills Golf Club on Friday, beating Tina Papatolis of Issaquah, Washington, in a two-hole playoff.

Kyrinis finished 5-over for the tournament, securing her third Canadian Women’s Senior title to go along with four Canadian Women’s Mid-Amateur championships.

The Thornhill, Ontario golfer was also the senior champion in 2016 and 2019, and won the Mid-Amateur Championship in 2016, 2019, 2023 and 2025.

“I didn’t really think that was going to happen today, so I am truly grateful to get this win,” said Kyrinis following the playoff. “So really just thrilled to win.”

Kyrinis stumbled out of the gate in the final round.

She entered the day tied with Papatolis at 3-over, but Papatolis quickly moved into the solo lead after Kyrinis double-bogeyed the first hole.

Papatolis opened with five consecutive pars, while Kyrinis followed with a pair of bogeys to fall four shots behind.

“I didn’t have a great start, four-putting the first green then having a three-putt a couple holes later. It was a rough start, but I just told myself just be patient,” said Kyrinis.

Kyrinis grabbed a crucial birdie on No. 5 to get things back on track, then finished with four pars to close her front nine at 6-over.

Papatolis responded with a bogey on No. 6 and a birdie on No. 7, along with two pars, to make the turn at 3-over and hold a three-shot advantage over Kyrinis.

Canadian Golf Hall of Famer and four-time Canadian Women’s Senior champion Mary Ann Hayward of St. Thomas, Ont., pulled into a tie with Kyrinis following a birdie on the par-5 10th hole, sitting at 6-over and chasing Papatolis.

Both Papatolis and Kyrinis opened their second nine with a bogey on No. 10.

Papatolis bogeyed No. 12, followed by a birdie from Kyrinis on No. 13 to cut the lead to one. Kyrinis added another birdie on No. 16 to pull even with Papatolis at 5-over.

The leaders exchanged pars on the final two holes, after Papatolis narrowly missed an opportunity to close it out on No. 18.

On the first playoff hole, Papatolis’ birdie attempt went past the hole, while Kyrinis got up and down and made a six-footer to force a second playoff hole.

On the second playoff hole, Kyrinis was on in two with a look at birdie. Papatolis got into trouble with her second shot and eventually had a 25-footer to save par, but the putt rimmed the cup.

That left Kyrinis with two putts to win, and she converted the par for the championship.

Kyrinis said the nerves were certainly there, but she was able to manage them through her breathing while sticking to her routine and process during the playoff.

“What a special week, never expected to do all this. The people here were just amazing and the weather was fabulous, the course was in fabulous condition and couldn’t ask for a better week,” she said.
