The Red Deer Rebels announced they’ve signed Swedish defenceman Zeb Lindgren to a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement.

In June, they drafted the 19-year-old 24th overall in the first round of the 2026 Canadian Hockey League Import Draft.

In addition, he was selected by the New York Rangers in round five of the 2025 NHL Draft.

The product of Umeå, Sweden, played for Skellefteå AIK in the country’s top U20 league where he served as the captain of the team and had six goals and 13 assists for 19 points in 36 games.

He also appeared in two games in the Swedish Hockey League.

“He’s a real heady player, a smart player who was an NHL draft pick of the Rangers last year, so he fit what we were looking for,” said Rebels Owner, President and General Manager Brent Sutter in a media release. “He speaks good English and has leadership abilities as he was captain of his team in Sweden. That kind of character is nice.”

Standing at six-foot-one and weighing 198 pounds, Lindgren also represented Sweden at the 2025 Hlinka Gretzky Cup and the 2025 World Junior A Challenge. He returned home with medals in both tournaments.
