Red Deer Arts Council presents McKenzie Trails Show and Sale

Jul 24, 2026 | 3:21 PM

Officials with the Red Deer Arts Council are pleased to present the McKenzie Trails Show and Sale, now on display at the Community Gallery until Aug. 28.

Description: “McKenzie Trails Show and Sale” is an exhibition of the work created during the Red Deer Arts Council’s 3rd Annual Plein Air Paint Out.

Artist Statement:

This year’s 3rd Annual Plein Air Paint Out was held at McKenzie Trails. Local painters near and far were treated to beautiful summer weather, and a picturesque view of the pond. Twenty-three artists spend the day painting the scenery surrounding the pond en plein air over the course of the day; from completely blank canvas to the artwork now on display. Despite painting at the same site, each artist is drawn to different aspects of the park. Some followed the restless birds, whose birdsong carried across the pond. Others rested their attention on the peaceful pond, nestling beside the bridge and on outcroppings. And some artists nestled into the cooling shade of the forest, sheltered from the storm that passed through in the afternoon.

Arts Council officials encourage you to immerse yourself in the beauty of the parkland as you view this exhibition. For those that want to try their hand at plein air, check out other sites on Come Paint Alberta tour. Leduc Art Club Aug. 15, Bar U Ranch Aug. 22, Leighton Art Center, Sept 25-26, and Coutts Center every Sunday. See our website for more information.

If you are interested in purchasing any of the art, inquire with a gallery attendant. Each painting sold, 30 per cent commission will go to fund programs at the Red Deer Arts Council.
