Through eyes of worship and praise

In its purest form, God wove His story into the world. As well, the Old Testament is a story of mans rise, fall, rise then fall into His grace all the while having the option to experience mercy and love. Times of peace, times of war, times of blessing, prophecies of a coming saviour and the end of the world in a final judgement are all part of the grand story.

This truly is the greatest story ever told, and we, as people have been part of it.

The prophets told ‘stories’ and revealed Gods message to us, Jesus told parables and the disciples told their life stories in the gospels and epistles.

The question remains, how was that story communicated?

Music, art, theology books, the Bible, allegorical tales with God driven themes and lastly architecture.

Early believers were instructed in the parables and the meaningful moments of Jesus’ life and God’s creation through art. Stained glass, murals, ceilings in grand chapels and biblical themed paintings all screamed ‘I am the great I am. Come and worship me. Do not forget my works.’

Early art taught, and as we have become more sophisticated and the great split in the world came, the reformation tore many from what had been a gate keeper to denominations who saw gospel truth first, and institutions second.

In our time, with our technology and immediate access to all things, our short attention spans and a world of shiny distractions God speaks to us in ways older generations may not understand or appreciate.

With cultural shifts away from a God influenced existence, blasphemous practises, art and literature draws men and women towards sin and depravity.

Yet in this mix, God is still present. It is written that ‘“I tell you,” He answered, “if they remain silent, the very stones will cry out,” in Luke 19:40 of his triumphal entry.

The Psalms ring out in praise: “Let the fields exult, and all that is in them. Then all the trees of the forest will sing for joy 13before the LORD, for He is coming—” Psalm 96”12-13a

Yes, He indeed is around us. The still small voice that is God calls us to be faithful to Him in all ways.

We must choose to see God around us at work and join him. God can use any circumstance to show His glory and power, to draw us closer to Him in relationship.
