Meanwhile, Mayor Jefferies wrote in a Facebook post that they are thankful to have had Minister Leblanc in the city yesterday.

“The more members of parliament who know about our city, the challenges we have, and the opportunities here, the better,” she wrote. “We talked about housing, interprovincial trade, the airport, homelessness, RDP, the hospital expansion and what that means to our community. We then joined in on a round table discussion at the Red Deer Chamber of Commerce.”

When it came to the meetings with the Red Deer District Chamber of Commerce, the Minister talked about how the federal government is supporting a strong economy and emphasized the importance of the Canada-Alberta Memorandum of Understanding.

“The Minister also noted how the Government is focused on the urgency of getting Canadian resources to domestic and world markets, and highlighted the important role that the Major Projects Office (MPO) is playing to help coordinate and streamline federal processes and get major infrastructure projects built,” as stated in the release. “This includes support for 23 nation-building projects and strategies that will support more than 155,000 jobs and represent over $138 billion in new investment – including right here in Alberta.”

The Minister also spoke of the need to continue efforts to eliminate interprovincial barriers to trade and labour mobility so that small and medium-sized businesses can take advantage of a unified domestic market, including in Red Deer.

He highlighted the importance of the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA) in maintaining a strong and predictable trading relationship with the United States and Mexico.

“He noted that preserving an integrated North American market is critical to supporting jobs, investment, and long-term prosperity on both sides of the border, particularly for export-oriented sectors such as energy, manufacturing, and agriculture, which are central to Red Deer and Alberta’s economy,” they added.

“The Minister thanked the Red Deer District Chamber for its steadfast advocacy and leadership, reiterating that a resilient Canada depends on continued cooperation amongst all orders of government.”
