RDP makes changes to prior learning and transfer credit process

Red Deer Polytechnic has retransformed its prior learning and transfer credit process.

On Tuesday, the institution introduced a new model that they say will make it easier for students to receive credit for the education and experience they already have when entering diploma and degree programs.

RDP reports that the new model will automatically recognize all credits and courses achieved from any Alberta public funded postsecondary institution for transfer into any RDP program.

In addition, RDP will publish a Transfer Articulation Catalogue for out-of-province learners. They will also offer a free prior learning assessment and recognition for credit learners from any publicly funded postsecondary institution in Canada as of July 1, 2026.

“We’re deeply committed to making education more accessible and to reducing the time and cost it takes for learners to reach their career goals,” says Lindsay Engel, Vice President, Academic & Student Experience, in a media release. “This new approach opens clearer, more supportive pathways for learners to build on their previous education and experience—helping them earn a new credential, step into a new career, or enter the workforce with confidence and momentum.”

RDP added that these changes ensure learners can accelerate their progress, reduce duplication of prior learning and enter their RDP program with a clear path forward.
