Lacombe Police Service (LPS) is investigating two separate thefts from vehicles, said to have occurred overnight on April 16-17 in residential parts of the city.

Per LPS:

“In the first incident, police received a report of a theft from a vehicle parked in the area of Maple Bay. Sometime between approximately 11:30 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., an unknown suspect gained entry into the vehicle and stole various work-related items, including coveralls, gloves, work boots, a hard hat, and bags containing personal belongings and a laptop. The vehicle was also damaged during the incident, including all four tires being slashed and exterior damage consistent with forced entry. The total value of stolen items is estimated at approximately $4,500.

“In a second incident, police received a report of a theft from a work truck parked in a driveway in the area of Par Court. The theft occurred during similar overnight hours between midnight and 6:00 a.m. Welding cables, valued at approximately $1,000, were stolen from the vehicle.”

Police have canvassed the area for witnesses and CCTV footage, however no suspects have been identified.

“These incidents are believed to be crimes of opportunity, and police are reminding residents to take precautions to reduce the risk of theft,” LPS says in a release.

“This includes removing valuables from vehicles, ensuring vehicles are locked, parking in well-lit areas, and considering the use of security cameras or motion-activated lighting.”
