A charge has been laid against a Calgary man following an investigation by police in Lacombe.

Just after 12:30 a.m. on April 14, members of Lacombe Police Service (LPS) were on proactive patrol in the 5800 block of Highway 2A. This led to a traffic stop involving a grey Volkswagen GTI.

The driver, a 35-year-old man from Calgary, was found to be operating the vehicle, allegedly without a valid driver’s license and without insurance.

During the investigation, officers observed drug paraphernalia in plain view within the vehicle, and the driver was arrested.

A subsequent search of the vehicle turned up a quantity of suspected cocaine, and items consistent with trafficking, such as a digital scale, packaging materials, and other paraphernalia, all of which were seized.

The male has been charged with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

In addition, the following tickets and summons were issued under provincial legislation:

* Drive motor vehicle without holding a valid operator’s license

* Operate an uninsured motor vehicle (mandatory court appearance)

* Fail to produce a certificate of registration

* Operate a motor vehicle with non-compliant window glazing

* Possess unmarked tobacco products

He has a court appearance scheduled for June 8 in Red Deer.
