Red Deer Public enhances transparency with new platform

Red Deer Public Schools says it is the first school division in Alberta to make comprehensive school and Division-level data publicly available on an ongoing basis through Baragar’s District Intelligence.

RDPS officials say the initiative is to promote transparency and provide families, staff and community members with clear, data-informed insights about schools throughout the Division.

The online platform, which can be accessed through the Red Deer Public School Division website, as well as each school website, makes key information accessible including:

  • School profiles, enrollment and class size
  • Staffing and school budgets
  • Demographic information about the student population
  • Literacy and numeracy averages
  • Alberta Education Assurance Measures

Officials note, however, that much of this information is already publicly available through provincial reports and Division documents. RDPS says District Intelligence presents the data in a consistent, accessible format. According to the school division, the goal is to support informed conversations about student learning, resource allocation, and system priorities across Red Deer Public Schools.

“Transparency builds trust,” said Nicole Buchanan, Board Chair for Red Deer Public Schools, in a press release this week. “By making this information easily accessible, we are giving our community a clearer understanding of our schools and the decisions we make to support student success.”

For many years, officials say the District Intelligence system has supported internal planning and decision-making within the Division, and will continue to inform future decisions to ensure resources are aligned with student needs.

“We recognize that this data does not tell the full story of our school community,” said Buchanan. “The information is intended to provide context and insight, not comparison or judgement. We remain committed to supporting student well-being, learning success and strong partnerships with our families.”
