It should come as no surprise at this point, but Albertans really like the names Noah and Olivia.

Among the 52,000+ babies who were born in the province in 2025, Noah was the most popular boy’s name, being given to 259 newborns. It was the seventh year in a row that it held the top spot.

Rounding out the top four most frequent names given to boys this past year were Theodore (204), Oliver (184), and Henry (180). Jack and Lucas were tied at fifth place (153).

Theodore had its best-ever placement on the 2025 list, rising from fourth in 2024 to second this past year.

Muhammad joined the top 10 for the first time at eighth place (132).

The most common girl’s name was Olivia, continuing a 13-year reign atop the girls’ list. The Alberta Government reports 173 babies born last year with this name.

Other popular girls’ names include Amelia (161), Emma and Sophia (150), and Charlotte (149).

Ava fell out of the top 10 for the first time in over a decade, dropping to 22nd spot

Eliana entered the top 10 for the first time, ranking eighth with 104 babies.

The government notes that several of last year’s baby names showcase the impact of the film and TV industry, with names of celebrities such as Khaleesi, Zendaya and Beckham. Others were inspired by Greek mythology with names like Artemis and Zephyr, while others looked to Mother Nature for names like Azalea, Magnolia, and Sparrow.
