A trio of major drug seizures was recently made at a southern Alberta border crossing.

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) says its officers seized a combined 1,010 kilograms of cocaine, methamphetamine, suspected heroin, and dode (opium poppies) from three commercial trucks late last year.

The first incident occurred on Nov. 26, 2025, after officers examined a truck that was carrying a load of electrolyte beverages from the U.S. to Calgary.

They located 461 kg of cocaine and 43 kg of suspected heroin, as well as one gram of opium hidden in the cab of the truck.

Then, on Dec. 2, a commercial truck with an empty truck trailer was pulled aside for an inspection.

Border officers say they found 300 kilograms of cocaine in the truck, along with 400 grams of suspected dode in the cab.

The third seizure took place on Dec. 18, as members examined a commercial truck carrying a declared load of vacuum parts destined for Calgary.

During the search, 206 kilograms of methamphetamine were confiscated.

In all three incidents, the drivers were arrested, and the drugs were transferred to the custody of the RCMP Federal Policing Northwest Region.

A spokesperson for the CBSA told Pattison Media that it no longer provides estimates of the street value of confiscated drugs, as factors such as purity, how they are cut and sold, and fluctuating levels of supply and demand can greatly affect prices.

Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree commended the CBSA for keeping the public safe from drug-related activities.

“This string of significant seizures exemplifies the dedication of CBSA officers who tirelessly defend our borders and protect our communities from dangerous drugs and organized crime groups. As a government, the safety and security of all Canadians is our most important responsibility.”

In 2025, the CBSA made 1,292 seizures of illegal narcotics, including 1,054 kg of cocaine and 279 kg of methamphetamine between all Canada-U.S. border crossings.

Their Dog Service Teams also carried out 29,486 searches last year, uncovering 13,986 high-risk food, plant, and animal items, along with 34,810 seizures involving drugs, firearms, and currency.
