Red Deer RCMP arrest man for alleged drug trafficking

Feb 12, 2026 | 5:09 PM

The Red Deer RCMP Crime Reduction Team arrested a 44-year-old man for alleged drug trafficking following an investigation.

Police say they arrested the Red Deer resident on Jan. 28 while they were conducting proactive patrols.

Officers observed a licence plate on a vehicle that didn’t match the registration information. The RCMP spoke with the owner of the plate, who said it was missing from his truck and was stolen.

As a result, police arrested the man while he exited the vehicle. In the process, he dropped a container that had multiple baggies of drugs in it, which were labelled by type and quantity.

Police determined through further investigation that the driver of the vehicle was the lawful owner of the license plate, whom the police had called earlier.

The driver had taken the licence plate from his truck and was using it on a different vehicle he owned.

The 44-year-old man has been charged with 11 counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, possession of tobacco products not marked for tax-paid sale, operating a motor vehicle without a subsisting certificate of registration and driving an uninsured motor vehicle on the highway.

He was brought before a Justice of the Peace and was released on conditions. His next court date is set for Feb. 19, 2026, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer.

The Red Deer RCMP would like to remind the public to regularly check their vehicle’s licence plate. If a licence is missing or stolen, report it to police as soon as possible and obtain a replacement at a registry.
