Olds RCMP arrest man known by police after evading in stolen vehicle

Feb 12, 2026 | 11:06 AM

Olds RCMP arrested a man, who police say was a repeat offender, after he evaded police earlier this month.

Police say on Feb. 2, members of the Olds RCMP Crime Reduction Unit (CRU), general duty officers, and Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods were investigating criminal activity.

While doing so, they recognized a man, who they say was known to police, driving a stolen vehicle.

He did not stop for the officers and fled the area at a high rate of speed. However, the next day, Olds RCMP CRU found the man and arrested him.

The 51-year-old Olds resident was found to have stolen property and was charged with flight from a peace officer, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, operation while prohibited, possession of property obtained by crime over and under $5,000, driving an uninsured motor vehicle, and possession of an operator’s licence issued to another.

The man was held for a Judicial Interim Release Hearing, where he was remanded into custody until his next court appearance on Feb. 23, 2026, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Didsbury.
