Construction on Gaetz Avenue bridge begins Monday
The City of Red Deer says a construction project on Gaetz Avenue is scheduled to begin on Feb. 16.
Officials say it will require rotating road closures and that construction will also impact parking and transit service between 45 Street and 43 Street.
The work, which is expected to be completed by the end of November 2026, the city explained, is required to replace aging infrastructure and improve the safety and reliability of the Gaetz Avenue bridge crossing at Waskasoo Creek.
“Beginning February 16, motorists should expect traffic disruptions and minor delays, with two travel lanes closed at a time,” the city stated in a media release. “On-street parking and the transit stop between 45 Street and 43 Street of Gaetz Avenue will be closed for the duration of construction; however, access to local businesses will be maintained throughout the project. Detours and alternative access routes will be in place as needed, and signage will be posted to help guide drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists.”
