Red Deer and Lacombe counties hosting workshop on water, spray, inversion and drift

Jan 7, 2026 | 4:49 PM

Red Deer County, in partnership with Lacombe County, are hosting a workshop in Innisfail on Jan. 12 all about water, spray, inversion and drift.

The program runs from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Innisfail Legion.

This workshop will provide guidance to help applicators make informed decisions that reduce off‑target movement and improve results. Dr. Tom Wolf of Sprayers101.com will share proven strategies to improve efficacy, reduce drift, and save time. Attendees can earn 6 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) toward the Certified Crop Adviser (CCA) program and/or 5 credits toward Pesticide Applicator certification.

Topics will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Water and spray performance: how water chemistry affects agricultural sprays and how to adjust water to improve effectiveness.
  • Weather inversions and drift: how inversions can cause drift hours after application and how to recognize and avoid them.
  • Canopy penetration: approaches to achieve better coverage in dense canopies mid‑ to late‑season.
  • Sprayer productivity: operational changes that increase acres sprayed per hour.
  • Spray drones: current laws, patterns, swath widths, drift, and canopy penetration (short session).
  • Nozzle selection for Pulse Width Modulation sprayers (short session)
