Peavey Mart to reopen Red Deer location in April

Jan 7, 2026 | 4:21 PM

Peavey Mart is officially relaunching in Red Deer.

The Red Deer-based company announced in January 2025 it would close 96 stores, and it followed through later in the year after liquidation sales.

At the time, the parent company, Peavey Industries, said it was a “profoundly difficult” decision to close the doors, having sought and gained creditor protection under the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act from Alberta’s Court of King’s Bench.

President and CEO Doug Anderson said last year that the Canadian retail industry is experiencing “unprecedented challenges,” including record-low consumer confidence, inflationary pressures, and rising operating costs along with supply disruptions.

But it was in late 2025 when the company announced a revival of sorts, with seven locations to reopen.

Four have already done so, in Lacombe, Westlock, Camrose and Spruce Grove.

Two will open later this winter in Saskatchewan (Assiniboia and Yorkton), plus one in Red Deer, Peavey Mart shared Wednesday.

“The locations that were chosen by the ownership group are reflective of a number of factors these communities hold, including the strength of the stores in these communities, an ease of access to the previously held storefronts, as well as how quickly we could expedite hiring and launch operations in the locations chosen,” says Meagan Parisian, leader of marketing & eCommerce.

“Our suppliers recognize that we hold ourselves to a high standard and expect to deliver a top-tier experience for our customers. They’re working with us to ship items to our distribution centre in Red Deer County, and in some cases directly to stores, as quickly as possible so we can fulfill these expectations.”

The Red Deer store will reopen in its previous location, a building constructed in 2022 along Gaetz Avenue at 28 Street, sometime in April.

The company also notes that the stores already reopened do not have full stock, but will by March 1, while Red Deer will be fully stocked come day one.
