Mayor clarifies cause of now-concluded boil water advisory for half of Penhold

A boil water advisory for the south part of Penhold has ended.

The advisory went into effect Thursday, and was said to be due to low chlorine levels detected by regular testing.

The advisory was ended Sunday afternoon just before 2 p.m.

Speaking to rdnewsNOW Monday, Mayor Mike Yargeau said 600 of Penhold’s roughly 1,200 homes were impacted.

“There was a mistake made… user error. A chlorine tank ran dry before it was switched,” Yargeau shares.

“It’s unfortunate, but people make mistakes, and luckily with all the systems we have in place, it was noticed before anything bad happened.”

Yargeau says at no point was the water even close to unsafe.

He had noted Friday morning that the chlorine levels were still within safe boundaries, but just far lower than they should’ve been.
