Two Blackfalds Bulldogs named captains of BCHL’s Canadian All-Stars

The BCHL revealed today the jerseys and leadership teams for its upcoming All-Star Weekend.

The marquee matchup, this year in a new format featuring Canada vs. World, goes Jan. 17 at the Thompson Family Arena in Spruce Grove, Alberta.

All-Star Weekend will feature other activities, including:

  • VIJHL Top Prospects Game and skills competition
  • College Prospects Game (players yet to commit to a college)

After a vote between the league’s 20 head coaches, the captain groups are as follows:

Canada

Luke Dahlen – Blackfalds Bulldogs (C)
Joey Melo – Blackfalds Bulldogs (A)

Samuel Rousseau – Victoria Grizzlies (A)
Joseph Sinclair – Sherwood Park Crusaders (A)

As of Nov. 28, Dahlen is tied for sixth in the BCHL points race, and second on the Bulldogs, with 27 (17G, 10A) in 23 games.

Tenth in league points is Melo, with 26 (6G, 20A) in 23 games.

World

Tai Ushio – Prince George Spruce Kings (C) (Japan)
Stevie Grumley – Sherwood Park Crusaders (A) (United States)
Aaron Reierson – Langley Rivermen (A) (United States)
Jacob Terpstra – Alberni Valley Bulldogs (A) (United States)

The remaining Canada vs. World rosters will be announced on Tuesday, Dec. 9. Tickets and schedule will be announced in the coming weeks.

Two other Bulldogs are in the top 20 of scoring — Nikita Ivashchenko (Ukraine) is 5th with 28 points in 23 games and leads Blackfalds; Thomas Neu (United States) is 9th with 26 points in 23 games.
