Temporary closure of Sylvan Lake Advanced Ambulatory Care Service

Nov 26, 2025 | 5:10 PM

Due to an unexpected gap in physician coverage, the Sylvan Lake Advanced Ambulatory Care Service (SLAACS) will be closed from 7:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 27. Officials with Alberta Health Service (AHS) say normal hours will resume at 3 p.m.

During the temporary closure, patients can access medical care for urgent health concerns from facilities in nearby communities, including Red Deer and Rocky Mountain House.

AHS says appointments scheduled with other services at the Sylvan Lake Community Health Centre, including laboratory appointments, or appointments with Public Health or Addiction and Mental Health services, are not impacted by temporary closures of SLAACS.

Officials note, SLAACS offers diagnosis and treatment of urgent but non-life-threatening conditions. Examples of urgent needs include minor cuts or burns, muscle and joint strains, bone fractures, and fever in young children. It is not for life-threatening emergencies such as heart attack, signs/symptoms of stroke, head trauma or seizures.

Patients are asked to call 911 if they have a medical emergency. Residents are reminded to call Health Link at 811, which is available 24/7, for non-emergency, health-related questions. Individuals requiring non-emergency medical care are also encouraged to call their family physician.

AHS says if locum coverage is secured for an identified gap, SLAACS service will be restored and the community will be notified.

Alberta Health Services says it is grateful for the support of surrounding healthcare centres and medical staff and would like to thank the community for its patience and understanding during this time.
